Thank you for her funeral details. Karen, RIP. They can't hurt you now :(

Thank you for the information...

Is there any particular charity that Karen's family would like donations to be made to in honour of Karen's amazing and selfless fight and support for others even though she was going through 'hell' herself...

The world is sadly going to miss such a wonderful woman. People like her are rare. 'Tis a shame there aren't more...

RIP Karen...

My sincere condolences to Karen's family and friends...

May your star shine brightly in the heavens for eternity...

I didn't know Karen, I joined Twitter earlier this year to help relieve my boredom during convalescence from illness and hospital stay. I was delighted to come across the disability community on twitter and associated blogs. Through them I've learnt a great deal more about issues affecting us as a direct result of welfare reform bill etc.
I was deeply moved by Karen's story, she had enough to deal with just coping with her serious and numerous conditions. As those of us with life limiting illnesses know, it's fulltime work managing the endless daily, weekly, monthly routines of tests, appts, scripts etc. It's inhumane, by any reasonable measure, that Karen had to battle for ESA at the same time as during her battle for life. I also have chronic kidney disease, it's a tough disease and stress does affect it. I feel so sad and angry that our government have designed a system that ignores the debilitating affect of serious illness. To focus narrowly on function, as I understand the wca test does, is ridiculous. Dialysis, and the other extremely powerful drugs Karen would have been on, would have made it impossible to work.
Who the hell decides an arbitrary time limit of 1 year for ESA? In any civilised society the support mechanism would be determined by health and medical needs alone. If that system was in place, Karen could have concentrated her energy purely on her health and had a degree of financial security. Although she may still have died, at least her remaining time would have been much less worrying. Karen did her bit, she worked as long as she could and in a decent, compassionate society she should have been looked after and supported when she.became very ill.
Any politician who voted through time limit ESA should hang their heads. They are public servants and they let Karen down badly and continue to let the rest of us down.
I wish her peace now from the stress, I salute her bravery in fighting the system for herself and others and I'm inspired. My sincere sympathy & thoughts to Karen's husband and family for the loss of this special woman x

I'd suggest an invitation be sent to Grayling, Freud and Cameron were it not for the fact that one of them might actually turn up and cry crocodile tears.

My sincere sympathy for Karen and her family, at least she fought the fight, with courage, its mind-boggling how someone as ill as karen, had to spend her last days frantic and worried. its not just about the money, but a quality of life for however long the illness is. in karen's case far to short. really sad at her passing. but she will be remembered.x

Only just read Karen's story, posted 11 June. Speechless. So ashamed that such suffering can happen in this so-called "civilized" country. A country which is the poorer for Karen's untimely death.

Rest in Peace, Karen.

peace be with you Karen. Diabetes is a horrible disease that Governments choose to ignore because it is common and costs money. May your struggle not be in vain. lunarx

RIP Karen,
I am not shocked at this story as I have seen this type of treatment by the powers that be within my local community. I send my deepest condolences to the family. I would be ready to sign any petition to be presented to government on the seriously sick and inhumane treatment of the most vulnerable in society. The comparison of the government work ethic sounding like the rhetoric from the second world war is striking but there is a fundamental truth !!! I wish all concerned the very best in the fight against the system.

Makes you wonder how long the country will stand by and let this continue.....
